Chris Moneypenny and I skied a quick lap in the South Shoulder Chute at Bow Summit this morning.
Followed the summer trail until hitting the more obvious road feature where we started to skin. Followed the trail until the south shoulder and then headed directly for the bottom of the chute. We were able to skin almost to the top of the chute but bootpacked the last section. I stop at a rock just before the top to grab some pictures of Chris coming down. Ran into another group about to head up at the bottom of the fan and another 2 more groups on our way back down the trail. Following the trail you can ski all the way back to the upper parking lot as it has been packed down by hikers/skiers.
About 40-50cm of heavy wet snow in the alpine area, very low ski pen currently. Once the temps drop the skiing will be pretty tough until covered back with drier snow. Snowing at a good rate while we were out (S1? S2?) at just below freezing, (big flakes!). Not enough snow to ski the trees and probably best to stick to the trail for access to the alpine where there is better snow depths.
