Did another lap up to the summit of Observation Sub Peak today with Hannah Rebecca Smith and Vince Goyette, this time we also went to the slightly lower east peak before skiing the southwest aspect.
Great, fast travel all the way to the summit. The forest has a ton of packed down options now and the ridge skins well. The overhanging cornices have grown a little more in the last two days ago but are still straightforward to deal with. Once at the top we skied down the ridge towards the east peak and walked up the rocky slope to the top. After a short lunch break we skied down the southwest aspect into the main bowl and again down skiers left of the bench regrouping area found mid-run. Upper alpine was icy and hard, lower sections were creamy powder (I found hints of a solar crust closer to the large rocks). After the alpine we skied the skier’s left glades down to the treeline valley bottom and onward down into the forest and back to the road. Just slightly over 4 hours car to car, not bad considering someone had a pair of Guardian bindings!
Sunny all day and no wind. Very cold in the shade but nice and warm in the sun. Noticed the avalanches at Bow Summit (Roadside Bowl) and Observation Roadside area.
